Amy Stephenson interviews Videosign’s CEO Steven Tallant in the latest in the Human CEO podcast series on what makes a good leader.
Steven discusses how he became CEO of Videosign from his background in product development and how he had never envisaged he would be in a leadership role in a technology business but that it has felt like a natural progression. He goes on to say that he has always believed in ‘going with the flow’ referring to the line by fellow Liverpudlian John Lennon in Beautiful Boy ‘Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans’.
During the 17-minute podcast, Steven touches upon the purpose of Videosign, the industries that use the technology and how the pandemic has brought about changes in the way in which businesses operate, particularly those in the financial, insurance and legal industries where traditionally documents have needed to be signed in person or witnessed. Laws have been changed over the last year which now allows for more types of documents to be remotely signed securely, and that’s where Videosign comes in, making the process as easy as possible.
When asked which leaders he admires, Steven is quick to recognise technology pioneers, Steve Jobs, and Elon Musk. How they have pursued their passions despite being challenged and criticised by their peers.
Steven passes on in the podcast advice he has received, and what he himself believes are good leader qualities:
- Love what you do.
- Ride the wave and do your best.
- Be transparent and honest. Admit when you do not know something and do not be afraid to say so and ask questions.
- Build a quality team with people you can trust. Be part of the team and listen.
- Continue to learn from colleagues, customers, friends, and family.
Finally, Steven discusses what is coming up for Videosign and the new features being worked on now, included identity authentication and how that reduces the chance of fraud, can save time and money, and removes the friction of working remotely for businesses and their clients.
